About bUm

bUm is a lively mixture of event location, co-working space, meeting rooms, offers of help for people without a home and a neighborhood terrace on the beautiful Landwehr Canal, in the heart of Berlin Kreuzberg. Organizations geared towards the common good, civil initiatives and socially committed actors find space here to work together, learn, for events and constructive networking. bUm stands for committed hearts, strengthens committed civil engagement with a regenerative work culture and researches sustainable, intersectoral collaboration.

Our Team

Eva, Florinn, Jutta, Marcel, Natascha and Oskar are the team behind bUm. Eva is the managing director of bUm and is also involved in projects against racism, right-wing extremism and discrimination of all kinds and is part of a women’s language café for new and old Berliners in Neukölln. Florinn takes care of community building, concept development and communication at bUm, and she’s also an environmental and climate activist. Natascha is responsible for community and space management, is interested in psychology and loves nature and live concerts. Marcel is the contact person for your event in bUm; in his spare time he’s Batman – at least for his two sons 😉 Jutta supports administrative tasks, makes sure that bUm terrace is green and blooming and likes to swing dance (including Wednesdays on bUm terrace).

Together we take care of the processes, content and sustainable prosperity of bUm with a lot of idealism and passion. Feel free to write us love letters, your wishes, ideas and suggestions to kontakt@bum.berlin

Regenbogen über bUm

Our founding history

The former generator hall and the basement of the historic Kreuzberg Umspannwerk were originally rented by the Internet company Google for a “Startup Campus”. Such massive opposition protest formed in this politically active neighborhood that the premises were handed over to “civil society” after two years of demonstrations, a brief occupation of the construction site and a lot of turmoil. The non-profit organizations betterplace and Karuna took over the place for temporary use in 2018 and opened bUm Berlin GmbH in the newly renovated premises in autumn 2019, for an estimated period of 5 years.
